We were joking around in the shop the other day and someone said we should advertise that we fix our competitors cheap brake jobs! There was a round of laughter and I got to thinking maybe that is correct. Because truly there cannot be such a thing as a cheap brake job unless it is done incorrectly.
Let me explain Slapping on a set of pads is not a brake job. A brake job consist of complete disassembly and inspection of the complete rotor-caliper system including the numerous small parts, removing the old worn parts, and replacing or reconditioning as necessary then reassembling the brake system using special lubricants and shims to prevent squeaking and seizing of the components. The car is taken on a test drive to be sure everything is functioning properly and the pads are seated to the rotors correctly. All this is necessary so as to restore the brake function to as new performance. It is also necessary to prevent premature failures and uneven wear due to component seizure or binding.
Acceptable quality correct pads for the vehicle are much more expensive then low quality, bought in bulk, generic pads. A carefully done job takes longer and requires more training then a cut rate job. Quality work comes with a quality 3/36 guarantee covering the complete job not just the pads. Low cost generic pads do not give the life of quality pads. Read that “lifetime” guarantee closely. The pads are guaranteed but you have to pay again to get them installed.
